The Center For Justice and Accountability
We were so impressed with the international justice cases this organization took on. They focus on the disempowered worldwide, and win compensation for the victims of egregious wrongs. CJA is one of the only organizations to succesfully sue war criminals who either live in the US or have assets there. Check them out and consider giving to them too. With a tiny budget they've made significant strides towards international accountability and universal justice.
WAW is an organization committed to ensuring the human rights of Afghan women and children. Established before 9-11, WAW offers services to Afghan women and children both in the US and Afghanistan. Some of their most impressive work however, has gone on in Afghanistan (even in Taliban strongholds, like Kandahar) where they have built schools, family guidance centers (read 'shelters') and a burn ward and treatment center. WAW is a great group of incredibly commited people working for the disenfranchised of Afghanistan.
