The Land of Oz, as described in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum with illustrations by W. W. Denslow, is rectangular in shape and divided into four countries: Munchinland, Winkie Country, Gillkin Country, and Quadling Country. In the center of these four countries is Emerald City, where the Wizard resides. Oz is surrounded on four sides by an impassible desert that cuts the land off from the rest of the world.
