Title: Disappointed
Mar 22, 2013
I was disapplointed. The map does not change uniformly when hot liquid is poured into the mug. Some of the places don't seem to change at all. (I added the rating star only because required to. I would not buy this mug again.)

UPG RESPONSE: The mug shows the effects of global warming on the planet. Many inland locations will not change when you add a hot beverage to the mug. However, you will notice that all of the coastlines retreat, indicating the raising of sea levels across the globe.

Title: Wow, Global Warming made fun
I love this mug, that's why I bought a replacement when my wife ruined it in the dishwasher.

Title: Global Warming Mug
This is a thought provoking item. The speed with which the action takes place is not too rapid, but rapid enough to catch one's eye, if the observer hasn't been told of what to expect. A real conversation piece. Great gift for teenage grandchildren.

Title: Good find
Our son-in-law collects different kinds of mugs. This was perfect to add to his collection. He is the MD-director of a Diabetes Center and the staff always looks for his new mugs.

Title: A big hit with our resident oceanographer.
Given as a gift to our chemical oceanographer son the mugs met with enthusiastic thanks and surprise, i.e. "Where did you ever find those?". Once the mugs made their way to the office other scientist colleagues wanted to know where they, too, could find the mug. The link to Unemployed Philosophers was promptly sent. So, based on our experience - a really great gift!

Title: Heated argument for global warming
This mug and civil liberties mug were a gift to a relative in our old-style liberal family. It was warmly appreciated and thoroughly studied, and I heard descriptions of disappearing land masses for weeks. The relative, by the way, lives in Florida.

Title: Global Warming Mug
Easy grip. Disappearing polar ice caps made quite an impression on my students. A good visual for a good dose of reality (and coffee).

Title: Not so scary
Best conversation starter I have ever owned! Even climate change skeptics are taken aback when they see their favorite vacation spots disappear.

Title: fun for gifts
Clever mug lets you see the future if change is not made. Informative & a bit scary!

Title: It' Works
A friend bought it for me because I'm hippy dippy green (also known as environmental conscience). I love it BUT i accidentally put it in the dishwasher. So I had to buy another one.

Title: new world came
I dropped the world into the kitchen sink and a huge portion of the northern hemishere was cast into space. I grieved so, over the loss of such a worthy planet, alas during its repentent and recovery period. My wife prepared me for a great emotional shock with a predecessory gift card stating, "There's a new world comin' " It came as described in the catalogue, in a tmely manner.

Title: Climate Change on a Mug
I bought these for each of my 4 adult children. No one else commented about it beside my daughter. I think they're cool.

Title: Perfect "Green" Gift
*Presumably the Tree Hugger who uses the mug wouldn't waste the water, power, suds to further pollute the environment by the increased carbon footprint of a dishwasher in the first place! For the Progressive who already has protest t shirts, and for the Naysayers who need a visual for no other reason than pissing them off when the land masses disappear completely AFTER using the dishwasher!

Title: Global werming unproven by mug
I do believe in global warming, but the promised coastal changes don't happen when I pour hot coffee in this mug.

Title: great message
Although it is not likely ALL the polar ice caps would melt, it is neat to see this. As the North pole ice melts the seas don't raise because ice on water melting doesn't. When the south pole ice or greenland ice melts, that really raises the ocean. but it is less likely for that to all melt.

Title: Climate change -- where?
I was disappointed with this mug...the changes are hardly noticeable. In the past I had (and now also repurchased on sale) the Democratic Dream mug. It changed dramatically from red to blue.

Title: Great mug - wish it wasn't made in China
I got this mug as a gift and totally loved it, so much so that I almost purchased it for a friend. First, I checked to see where it was made, overseas in China. As someone who is concerned about many global issues, global warming and humanitarian rights included, I was dismayed to find out it's country of origin. Though I love the concept and it's ability to draw attention to a very real threat, it's message was blurred with the made in China caveat.

Title: Warming Thought
This mug is a great item. I drink coffee from it every morning at my office. It has been washed multiple times and still shows the warming effect like new. Great gift idea.
